District Profile:

The Rajanpur city is situated on the right bank of River Indus however District itself is situated on both sides of River Indus. Rajanpur District is bounded on the North by DG Khan on the East by Muzafar Garh & Rahim Year Khan Districts lying across the River Indus on the south lies District Jaccobabad of Sindh province while on the West is the District Dera Bughti & Barkhan of Balochistan province. It comprises 12,318 squares Km Area. Population density of the district is 90 persons per sq Km. There are 44 union councils in the district.

The flood affects district Rajanpur almost every year. It is caused by two main factors i.e. Hill torrents, and riverine. However, this year monsoon season starting June-July 2015 with torrential rains gave rise to heavy flash floods in the affected areas of the Suleman Mountain range.

Naalas namely, Darra Kah Sultan, Darra Chachar, Darra Potokh and Darra Surri (streams) over flooded with heavy rains also aggravated the situation in the hill torrent side of District Rajanpur.

Being close to the river bed, the eastern part of the district (Katcha zone) is frequently hit by flooding from the Indus River due to heavy monsoon rains in July/August and snow melt in the Himalayas. This riverine flooding inundates a large part of the low lying areas along the river belt in all three Tehsils (sub-districts), namely Jampur, Rajanpur and Rojahn. The western part of the district (locally called Parched) is frequently affected by flash floods which develop in the Suleiman mountain ranges. Both these hazards bring heavy losses in the two areas that cover roughly about 80% of the area and about 60% of the population, damaging houses made of mud, land and crops, livestock and other property.
